Boys and Girls Science Day

You’re Invited To… Boys and Girls Science Day!

On Wednesday, July 10, 2019, girls in grades 3 – 6 will have the opportunity to participate in a Girls Science Camp, just for girls. Then on Thursday, July 11, 2019, boys in grades 3 – 6 will have the opportunity to participate in a Boys Science Camp. Each day will focus on providing the opportunity to learn more about science while gaining life skills and participating in a variety of exciting experiments. Studies have shown that boys and girls have a different way of processing information. Students’ knowledge and experiences influence their scientific understanding. Not only should material be developmentally appropriate, but it should allow students, whether boys or girls, to build upon their background knowledge.

By having two separate Science Camps, we will be able to differentiate our instruction to address the ways boys and girls learn differently. Cognitive processing often brings attention to the differences children have within the scientific field. As we are planning for the boys and girls science day, we take their cognitive processing skills into consideration when creating lesson plans. While at the Boys and Girls Science Camp, children will have the opportunity to learn about weather, complete STEM Projects that include electricity, Turning Tumbel (children will work together to turn on a marble-powered computer), test the buoyancy of water balloons, and more.

Cost for participants will be $15 per person. Fees cover lunch, snacks, a take-home science kit, and camp materials. The registration form is online this year at for the girls and for the boys. Registration deadline is June 21, 2019. Please also share this with and invite your non- 4-H friends too!!

The postcards below share more information about Boys and Girls Science Camp as well as shares a schedule of the scientific experiments that we will be conducting.
